I wrote to an artist from Spain about one of his paintings, and I got a reply back! I just wanted to say that I liked his painting, but he may have gotten the impression that I wanted to buy it. But I was just looking at his website because of my Spanish class.Carlos Pardo, painter from Ferrol, Spain, began painting in 1998. He often paints using these artistic movements: romanticism, modernism, expressionism, and Fauvism. My favorite painting of his is "Mañana de Carnaval" or "Carnival Morning," which he painted in 1999. In the following letter from him, he explains the meaning behind the painting as well as the story behind it. He uses the themes of city life and people on the streets in his paintings.
This is what he wrote to me: "Dear Sarah: Thank you very much for visiting my site, request information and your words about the painting you like. I am pleased of receiving answer from USA after I could send a painting from Playa del Rey, California last December. As you can read under the image the piece is unavailable. Regrettably it was stolen in Madrid (Spain) during an exhibition in January 2000. This fact made I stopped my participation in the collective show. Along these years some people said me they like this painting but I replied telling about that. Yesterday I was remembering when I painted it and the sadness when I knew the notice it was missing. In the night I had the idea to try painting it again. I’ve never painted the same piece again. All comes from imagination, dreams or evocations of experiences, but why not? If you are agree and you are interested in I could paint it again for you .This way I could get even at last with this challenge.
I don’t know what will be the result but I could try to remain faithful to the original. The difficulty is to get the same spirit or impression than the first one.
The bad notice is if I begin to paint the piece this week you must to wait two or three months the paint dries. Anyway if in this period I consider the painting is ready to delivery I will tell you.
The first one was made with Acrylics on table. Now I could use oils on table. The oils spent more time in drying; this is the reason of that period of two or three months. Acrylic medium will take some weeks only. When it’s finished I could send you a final photo to see it without any obligation for you. If you like it you could acquire it.
¿Do you want the same measure or you don’t mind to be a bit greater than the first one? ¿acryl is good or prefer some oil?. You can also let me to decide.
I hope you were still interested in “Mañana de Carnaval” / “Carnival morning” (the next one). After going out, drinking and dancing all night, the spirit of carnival is still alive. We are tired but our heart is desiring to continue tomorrow or with a bit of sadness we must to wait until the next year, we will be a year older… I’ll be pleased to paint it for you.again. Thank you again for writing me and what you say about the painting. I look forward to hearing for you soon. Yours sincerely,
Carlos Pardo from Spain"
